Layered Higgs Phase as a Possible Field Localisation on a Brane

چکیده
So far it has been found by using lattice techniques that in the anisotropic five– dimensional Abelian Higgs model, a layered Higgs phase exists in addition to the expected five–dimensional one. The exploration of the phase diagram has shown that the two Higgs phases are separated by a phase transition from the confining phase. This transition is known to be first order. In this paper we explore the possibility of finding a second order transition point in the critical line which separates the first order phase transition from the crossover region. This is shown to be the case only for the four– dimensional Higgs layered phase whilst the phase transition to the five–dimensional broken phase remains first order. The layered phase serves as the possible realisation of four–dimensional spacetime dynamics which is embedded in a five–dimensional spacetime. These results are due to gauge and scalar field localisation by confining interactions along the extra fifth direction. E-mail: [email protected] E-mail: [email protected]

Branes in the 5D Abelian Higgs Model
Anisotropy has been shown to be a relevant perturbation for gauge theories[1]. The coupling to fermions allows us to put chiral fermions on the lattice in either the overlap or the domain wall variants[2]. The continuum limit may be taken, since a new phase of “layers”, or 3-branes, appears[3] and the transition from this phase to the 5D confining phase turns out to be second order[4]. In the p...
متن کاملThe massive Elko spinor field in the de Sitter braneworld model
The Elko spinor field is a spin 1/2 fermionic quantum field with a mass dimension introduced as a candidate of dark matter. In this work, we study the localization of Elko fields on a de Sitter thick brane constructed by a canonical or phantom scalar field. By presenting the mass-independent potentials of Kaluza-Klein (KK) modes in the corresponding Schrödinger equations, it is shown that the E...
متن کاملTowards a Higgs phase of gravity in string theory
We consider a braneworld scenario with a black brane parallel to our brane, aiming towards a Higgs phase of gravity in string theory. The existence of the black brane spontaneously breaks the Lorentz symmetry on our brane but preserves the rotational and translational invariance. If all moduli are stabilized then this should lead to a Higgs phase of gravity. We investigate moduli stabilization ...
متن کاملLocalisation and mass generation for non-abelian gauge fields
It has been suggested recently that in the presence of suitably “warped” extra dimensions, the low-energy limit of pure gauge field theory may contain massive elementary vector bosons localised on a “brane”, but no elementary Higgs scalars. We provide nonperturbative evidence in favour of this conjecture through numerical lattice measurements of the static quark-antiquark force of pure SU(2) ga...
متن کاملSpherically Symmetric Solutions in a New Braneworld Massive Gravity Theory
In this paper, a combination of the braneworld scenario and covariant de Rham-Gabadadze-Tolley (dRGT) massive Gravity theory is proposed. In this setup, the five-dimensional bulk graviton is considered to be massive. The five dimensional nonlinear ghost-free massive gravity theory affects the 3-brane dynamics and the gravitational potential on the brane. Following the solutions with spherical s...
